Letters from the Can Do Kids to families receiving Christmas gift baskets. Can Do Volunteers over the Holiday preparing gift baskets

"I'm a fourth grader at Irving. I'm writing this letter of behalf of the 'Can Do Foundation'. As you probably already know, the Founder of 'Can Do' is Ms. Jennifer Wilfong. She started this foundation during the school year of 2002-2003."

Read the kids personal letters describing what Can Do is:
Hi, my name is Steve
Hi, my name is Shaylin
Hi, my name is Keshaundria
Hi, my name is Jarious
Hi, my name is Shanyria
Hi, my name is Shatea

On Dec. 10-11th, Borders Bookstore allowed volunteers representing the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund to wrap gifts for Borders' customers.  During just a few hours, $84 was donated to Can Do for gift wrapping services.  Thanks to the Borders organization, their freely giving customers, and the Can Do volunteers for raising money for the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund.

Founder Jennifer Wilfong introducing the Can Do $1,000 Scholarships to the 2005-2006 fourth grade class at Peoria's Irving School.

"I went to Irving in second third and fourth grade, and I remember you. I still have the shirt you gave us. I'm going to hang it up for luck, because I feel lucky to receive money to help me go to college. I want to be an anesthesiologist. Thank you!"

Persuasion letter winner

BackpackThree Can Do Kids were awarded backpacks/book bags in the Fall 2004 when they persuaded their classmates that they most deserved the Caterpillar backpacks.  (Thanks to Caterpillar for donating these Cat backpacks)  Here is a sample of one of the three 'persuasion' letters that was written by one of the winners of the back packs/book bags:

"I think I should have the book bag because my book bag has holes in it.  I loose my pencil through the holes in the bag.  I also use my bag for multiple reasons for example, I bring home my reading assignment and homework.  Another reason is that my zipper is broken on my bag and I can't close it.  With the new bag, I will have privacy and I won't loose my pencils.  As you can see, I think I should have the book bag."
