Can Do Founder wins first-ever “Can
Do” community spirit award April 3, 2006
Announcement: Peoria’s District 150 School Board awarded Jennifer
Wilfong, the founder of the unique Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund, the first
ever Can Do community spirit award. Wilfong was recognized for her involvement
with the students at Irving Primary School; she not only visits the school
monthly to spend time with the students, but she also spends time with
them on Saturday’s ‘game day’, as well as coaches some
of them in the DreamCenter basketball league. The Can Do community spirit
award was specially crafted, in granite, and utilizing the ‘stars’ from
the Can Do logo. The award also is highlighted by a Helen Keller quote:
When we do the best we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our
life, or in the life of another.”
Mission: The mission of the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship
Fund is to instill a "Can Do" attitude in Irving fourth graders to stay focused
on graduating from high school so they can attend college or a technical
training institution. The hope is that the "Can Do Kids" will
graduate with job skills so that they may become positive, driving forces
within their families and community.
