District 150, Can Do Founder, Community Leaders focus on Woodruff Region education plan

9/13/2005:District 150 assistant superintendent Dr. Cynthia Fischer and Can Do Founder Jennifer Wilfong led a meeting with community leaders from faith based organizations, networking groups, and non-profits to better understand what is the mission of the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund. All participants felt Can Do was off to a great start, in just it’s third year with four classes (240 students) now having the promise of receiving a $1,000 Can Do Scholarship.

However, it was widely agreed that ‘we can do better, more, collaboratively’ for the betterment of these students. Therefore, the participants agreed to meet again in November 2005 to start work on a Woodruff Region Can Do Education strategy, so that kids/parents and the wide variety of programs available through numerous initiatives can connect the dots and help students successfully migrate from Irving School as 4th graders through middle school and on to high school graduation.

Mission: The mission of the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund is to instill a "Can Do" attitude in Irving School (Peoria, IL) fourth graders to stay focused on graduating from high school so they can attend college or a technical training institution. The hope is that the "Can Do Kids" will graduate with job skills so that they may become positive, driving forces within their families and community.
