The 4th Annual Can Do Walk & 5K raises $18,000

News: The 4th annual Can Do Walk & 5K Run raised $18,000 in funds for the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund, through sponsorships and personal contributions. The Knox College women’s basketball team selected the Can Do 5K to be their community service event of the year. Plus, a Peoria-area Traders Realty realtor will begin funding a Can Do scholarship, with a donation to Can Do every time he sells a home. And, on-line registrations increased nearly 50% this year versus last year, and $2,000 more was raised versus last year’s results.

The Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund’s two mile Can Do Walk also featured a 5K run in it’s 4th annual event on Peoria’s lovely Grandview Drive on Sept. 16, 2006. This event is the main fundraiser for the $1,000 Can Do Scholarships that Irving School fourth graders will be awarded when they graduate from high school and transition to post secondary institutions. Over 270 Irving students have received the $1,000 Can Do Scholarship promise, due to generous contributions over the last four school years. The first class of students is now entering eighth grade in the fall of 2006. Because $18,000 was raised, the unique $1,000 Can Do Scholarship promises can also be given to this year’s class of 55 fourth grade students at Peoria’s Irving Primary School.

Mission: The mission of the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund is to instill a "Can Do" attitude in Irving School (Peoria, IL) fourth graders so that they stay focused on graduating from high school and attend college or a technical training institution. The hope is that the "Can Do Kids" will graduate with job skills so that they may become positive, driving forces within their families and community.
