Who, What, Why: The Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund is proud to announce each of the 80 fourth graders who attend Peoria’s Irving Primary School will be offered the $1,000 Can Do Scholarship promise. This is the 4th year in a row that Irving students have received the unique Can Do scholarship; with these 80 students, the total number of potential scholarship recipients now exceeds 270. These students, now in 4th through 7th grade, will receive the $1,000 Can Do Scholarship once they complete high school graduation, and enroll in an accredited post secondary institution, i.e. college, junior college, technical training, cosmetology school, etc.

When: November 22, 2005 at 2pm

Where: Irving Primary School gymnasium

Additional info on Nov. 22, 2005: The founder of the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund, Jennifer Wilfong, will be engaged in a morning collaboration session with District 150 officials, non-profit organizations, and community members to help identify how Can Do can be a critical component of an entire Woodruff Region Educational strategic plan. For example, wouldn't it be great if every student and parent would know the plans that are in place to help a student progress from Irving Primary to Lincoln Middle School to then graduate from Woodruff High School, and thus transition to utilize the $1,000 Can Do Scholarship at a post secondary institution?

Then, at 1pm on Nov. 22, Wilfong will also be visiting the current Lincoln Middle School 5th- 7th graders who were given the $1,000 Can Do Scholarship promise in 2002, 2003, and 2004 while attending Irving Primary. Two of the key components of ensuring that the kids progress are 1) that the Can Do Scholarship be reinforced up until h.s. graduation, and 2) that Can Do volunteers stay connected to the students along the way.

The mission of the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund is to increase the level of h.s. graduation rate among these students. Our goal is for the students to have hope to move on to gain skills through furthering their education, so that they can become driving forces in their families and communities.
