Do students in the news! Peoria Journal Star, May 13, 2011 25 Can Do seniors graduated from Peoria District 150 High Schools in June 2011. This first class of Can Do students graduated at a 1-6% higher rate from District 150 Schools than the two previous classes. We look forward to continue mentoring the remaining Can Do students the next five years to help them graduate at an even higher rate. 9th Annual Can Do Walk & 5K With more than 200 people participating and volunteering, the Sept. 10th Can Do Walk & 5K raised approx. $12,500. These funds will further increase the Can Do Scholarship Fund to over $250,000. We had our largest group of 5K participants. And, we had two female runners (Mallory Schlink & Juilet Wu) who have won the Can Do 5K in their age groups in back to back years. Can Do students are now enrolling in colleges. The Community Foundation of Central Illinois has recently been distributing some Can Do scholarships in the name of Can Do students to accredited post secondary institutions. CFCI reports that they have sent $1,000 Can Do scholarships to these schools: Bradley University, Illinois Central College, Eureka College, Cal State Northridge, and a prep school. This is exactly what we want to do: help financially support Can Do students with their future. |

Can Do Students: Here's a class
of Can Do students at Irving Primary School, Peoria, IL. Each
student may receive a Can Do Scholarship. |
What is Can Do? The Can Do 4:13 Scholarship Fund is dedicated to providing $1,000 scholarships to the 2002 through 2008 fourth grade classes at Peoria, IL's Irving Primary School. The Can Do students have been challenged to graduate from high school. They will receive the $1,000 Can Do 4:13 Scholarship once they graduate from high school and then enroll at an accredited post secondary education institution. Examples of those institutions might include a university, college, technical training school, junior or business college, or cosmetology school. The Can Do students total 375 students; they are in the 7th through 12th grades. When the first class of Can Do students graduated in June 2011, Can Do will still have more than 310 students in 7th - 12th grades. Over $235,000 has been raised to fund the Can Do 4:13 Scholarship. Can Do aspires to give these students hope, as well as the ability to truly see that the community cares about them, and is encouraging them to graduate from high school. This hope is expected to increase graduation rates among these students, and truly change the near north side of Peoria. |
